An Instrument of Peace
Blog #70
May your Thanksgiving celebration be filled with gratitude
and blessed with an inner peace that expands into brotherly love for all.
Here’s the finished result of the 40-Triangle guidelines presented in Blog #69.
Symbolism
Written in this pysanka’s symbolism is the prayer for the soul to express its
perfection — the image and likeness of God within — in all of life’s circumstances.
Ladders, symbolic of ascending to greater heights, define the 40 triangles.
The Triangles represent consciousness, awareness, mindfulness. The foundational
40-Triangle symbol signifies good fortune.
White represents purity, the perfection of the soul, intuition. Compassion, kindness, truthfulness, contentment and sincerity — qualities reflecting the soul’s integrity — are represented by the Sun symbol rising on the horizon of conscious awareness; its light striving to become God-like, to become One with Him, to become whole again.
Red conveys passion, willingness, effort. Blue conveys expansiveness, endless possibilities. Yellow conveys success, grace, understanding.
A Prayer by Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Spirit,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
Ukrainian folklore characterizes pysanky as a symbolic, talismanic writing that invokes a higher Universal Power for help, while believing with faithful certainty that It will. The contemporary version of this characterization is a paper-and-pen journaling practice called prayer writing. Both develop a personal relationship with God.
