A commemorative pysanky

The baptism of our newest family member inspired this pysanka. During the ceremony, four prayers recited in succession intrigued me — blessing the baby, blessing her parents, blessing her godparents and blessing her extended family. Written to honor the spiritual intent of those ceremonial prayers, this prayer-pysanka seeks God’s favor and protection upon her life and all those that love her.

Symbolism

Bunny….symbolizes the baby, soul. Rabbits….signifies family, friends. Lace….symbolizes meditation, God’s omnipresent love and protection. Tree…signifies knowledge, wisdom, truth. White….represents purity, clarity. Moon….signifies illumination, understanding, realization. Pink….represents unconditional love.

Bless her dear parents, Lord. May the light and love that fills their hearts at this moment continue to grow as this precious little one grows. May Your wisdom guide them rightly in all their parental duties.

Blessings upon the godparents of this little baby girl. Let their helpful, loving and joyful willingness to serve her needs bring comforting assurance and support throughout the years.

Bless her grandparents, aunts, uncles and all friends alike. May each one who has the good fortune to enrich her life do so in beautiful, bountiful ways. May their love teach her how to cherish others unconditionally.

Aum. Peace. Amen.

A blessed easter to you and all your loved ones.

Ukrainian folklore characterizes pysanky as a symbolic, talismanic writing that invokes a higher Universal Power for help, while believing with faithful certainty that It will. The contemporary version of this characterization is a paper-and-pen journaling practice called prayer writing that develops a personal relationship with God.
