The Sorrowful Heart
Ukrainian folklore characterizes pysanky as a symbolic, talismanic writing that solicits a higher Power’s help while faithfully believing with certainty that It will.
The following pysanka, written for a friend whose father recently passed, prayerfully invokes God’s blessings on his ascending soul and blessings upon his loved ones during this time of sorrow.
It is a prayer that extends to all recently departed souls and their families and friends.
The Sun symbol represents Divine Love. Its pinkish-purple color invokes aid in healing the sorrowful heart as the golden rays of God’s compassion extend blessings to those still on the green earth. For the departed, the Sun symbol peacefully, lovingly lights the way for the soul’s heavenly journey.
White Lace symbolizes meditative prayer for strength to endure the dark-blue difficulty of this sorrowful time and for expressing love and goodwill to the departed soul. May you feel the omnipresent comfort of God’s uplifting peace and love within your heart, now and ever more.
